Imtiaz Ali has finally opened up about his new film starring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma. The film which is tentatively titled ‘The Ring’, will be very different to previous films that Ali has made.
DNA India reported that the ‘Tamasha’ (2015) filmmaker wanted to move away from his usual style, marking his first collaboration with Khan. Though Ali has been making films for over a decade he assures that there wasn’t any pressure to make a certain type of film to suit Khan. “No. That is not the arrangement with which we are working. The reason why Shah Rukh and I are working is because both of us wanted to do something which we were not doing really,” says Ali.
With both Ali and Khan wanting to break away from the norm, it offers the perfect opportunity for duo to work together. “For me, I didn’t want to fall into pattern of certain type of film. And he (Shah Rukh) wanted to break out of the pattern that he was in. That’s the reason why we got to work,” shares the ‘Highway’ (2015) director.
For Ali’s three previous films ‘Tamasha’ (2016), ‘Highway’ (2015) and ‘Rockstar’ (2014), it was AR Rahman’s magic that was felt on the soundtracks, though this time Pritam will be tasked of composing the soundtrack. Previously Pritam created the smash hits to ‘Jab We Met’ (2007) and ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009).
Ali was asked if ‘The Ring’ will be in the same category as ‘Jab We Met’ (2007) and ‘Love Aaj Kal’ (2009), to which Ali said he just wanted to make the film honestly without any comparisons. “I am not really thinking of it that way. I am just thinking of this particular story and trying to make it in the best way possible, whether it turns out closer to ‘Jab We Met’ or ‘Rockstar’, that I don’t know.”
‘The Ring’ is slated for release in August next year.
