Imran Khan to play lead in ‘2 States’
Sajid Nadiadwala and Karan Johar have zeroed in on Imran Khan to play the lead in their ambitious new project ‘2 States’.
There was talk earlier that the film had been shelved but this has now been denied. A search is currently in progress for a female lead. Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra’s names are being shortlisted.
A source revealed, “Sajid had bought the rights of the film a couple of years back. It was to be directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, with Shah Rukh Khan playing the lead. However, talks fizzled out. After that, Karan stepped in as the co-producer and Ranbir Kapoor agreed to topline it. But Kapoor`s involvement didn`t work out and the project was put on the backburner.”
Imran is the new star on the block and with a slew of hits to his credit, he is as bankable as any other top star. Karan was keen to have Imran on board. The actor takes his time to commit to any film. But he loved the script of 2 States and gave his nod to the film, which is expected to start early next year, said a source.
‘2 States’ is a light-hearted story about a Punjabi boy and a South Indian girl and the shenanigans they get up to before they get married.
