IMG Media wins award for IPL3 coverage

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a success all around and now it has further reason to be joyous.

IMG Media, a division of the leading global sports and media company, IMG Worldwide, has won the major television industry and highly prestigious ‘Broadcast Award’ in the category of ‘Best Sports Programme for 2010’ for its coverage of the 2010 IPL final on ITV4.

IMG Media faced stiff competition from five other nominees, including: BBC۪s coverage of the Football World Cup in South Africa, alongside ITV۪s Football World Cup broadcasts; BBC2۪s Winter Olympics coverage and Channel 4۪s coverage of the Tour de France.

One member of the judging panel commented that the coverage, “made what might have been a brash experience interesting and fun” while another said it provided “good background and analysis, enticing new viewers to the sport.”

Graham Fry, Managing Director, Production Worldwide, IMG Sports Media said, “The Indian Premier League is now a major global event. The logistics involved in covering so many matches in a relatively short period of time is an achievement in itself. To be recognized for the quality of the coverage is an honor and testament to all those, including many Indian television professionals, who have put so much effort into the production of the IPL.”

Andrew Wildblood, Executive Vice President IMG/IMG Media, said, “IMG Media۪s coverage of DLF IPL showcases the extraordinary event that DLF IPL has become in its very short life so far, to both the Indian and the international viewer. The coverage reflects the vibrant, innovative, passionate and exciting characteristics for which modern India is now recognized and admired throughout the international community. It is our privilege to be tasked by the BCCI with the responsibility of delivering the event to their fans both in India and overseas. In addition, it is very gratifying that the brilliant work of Simon Wheeler and his production team have been recognized through this prestigious award in competition with the outstanding work of the other nominees.”

The coverage of the IPL Final aired on ITV4 in April 2010.

Multi Screen Media (Sony Entertainment Network) holds the rights to broadcast the IPL in India, whilst a UK broadcaster for this year’s season is yet to be confirmed.
