Hum TV rapped by PEMRA for lesbian scene

Pakistan media regulator, PEMRA has served a notice for Hum TV for broadcasting lesbian references in its weekly show ‘Kitni Girhain Baqi Hain’.

The episode, which was aired on Sunday 29th January, titled ‘Chewing Gum’ saw Sania Saeed and Farah Shah as lesbian partners. The notice said that the subtle hints of homosexuality between the two female leads was unacceptable. Dawn News reports the issue stating that “the topic of homosexuality is against our social, ethical and societal norms and values”.

PEMRA said it had received many complaints on Twitter after the episode was aired. PEMRA had also rapped Zong 4G and Oppo Selfie First Ad, the makers of ‘Kitni Girhain Baqi Hain’. PEMRA has given until end of this month to respond.

Previously, Hum TV was also given a warning about sensitive issues of child abuse broadcast in ‘Udaari’.
