Hum TV Network has confirmed that it is eyeing a launch of an Urdu news channel.

Talking to BBC Urdu, Hum TV CEO Sultana Siddique said that she was proud the way Hum TV has built its niche in a saturated and competitive market. “Though there have been a drastic increase in entertainment channels, most of them lack the expertise of a good technical crew. Besides the crew, we have scarcity of actors, and those on whom we have worked hard upon, demand too much money putting the producers or the channel for that matter, in a tough spot.”

Without elaborating too much on foraying into the news sector, Siddique pointed out that there was space for a channel to depict Pakistan in a better light. “I want to show the world a positive, and a better image of Pakistan.”

In the UK, Hum TV Network will be launching a hybrid entertainment and lifestyle channel by March – subject to EPG availability.

Hum TV is the UK’s most watched Pakistan entertainment channel with a reach of over 500,000 viewers per week.
