HSBC appoints Pam Kaur as first female Group CFO in 160-year history

HSBC has appointed Pam Kaur as Group Chief Financial Officer (GCFO) and Executive Director of the Board of Directors.

Kaur, currently serving as Group Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, joined HSBC in 2013 as Group Head of Audit and brings nearly 40 years of financial expertise across the UK and US markets.

The first woman to occupy the role in the bank’s 160-year history, Kaur has observed up close the strategic challenges facing HSBC under new CEO Georges Elhedery, including navigating a new interest rate cycle and managing the bank’s complex position amid growing tensions between China and the West.

Sir Mark Tucker, HSBC Group Chairman, congratulated Kaur, saying, “She is highly respected and well known to the Board and was the unanimous choice.” HSBC Group Chief Executive Georges Elhedery highlighted Kaur as the “exceptional candidate” for the role and thanked Jon Bingham for his interim leadership.

Kaur takes on her new role with effect from 1st January 2025.
