Hrithik Roshan turns 50: Six romantic numbers featuring the actor

10th January marks the birthday of the versatile actor Hrithik Roshan. However this year will be a special one with the actor celebrating his 50th!

For this special day looks back at six romantic songs that Roshan starred in.

‘Chand Sitare Phool Aur Khushboo’ from ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai’ (2000)

This is where the journey began for both Roshan and Ameesha Patel who also debuted with this film. The film was produced and directed by his father Rakesh Roshan while the music was given by his uncle Rajesh Roshan. The film had everything from drama, romance and comedy and as for the music, it was spectacular.

All the songs were extremely popular when the film first released with every music channel, radio station constantly playing them. The song ‘chand sitare’ is a soothing number which is beautiful yet quite underrated compared to the other songs in the film. Singer Kumar Sanu sang for Roshan and the lyrics were written by Sawan Kumar Tak.

In the song the character Rohit (Roshan) is given a chance to demonstrate his talent as a singer at Sonia’s (Patel) birthday party and during the song the two also realise that they might actually like one another.

‘Aaja Mahiya’ from ‘Fiza’ (2000)

A hard hitting film with some memorable music. Who can forget the song ‘aaja mahiya’ sung in the vocals of Udit Narayan, Alka Yagnik and Prashant Samaddar. The song was pure sunshine and the credit goes not only to the singers but also Anu Malik who composed the song and lyricist Gulzar.

This song is definitely one of those that will instantly lift your mood and maybe even get you dancing as the music is so addictive.

Seen alongside Roshan was Shabana Raza who during her career was known as Neha. The two looked great together and showed the audience what young love looks like. The song was filmed in such a manner that even today one can remember not only the song but visualise the actors singing and dancing with the sunset in the background.

‘Jab Dil Mile’ from ‘Yaadein’ (2000)

This film may not have done so well at the box office but the music album won over the audience that’s for sure. A number of singers came together for this song from the legend Asha Bhosle, to Udit Narayan, Sukhwinder Singh and Sunidhi Chauhan. Picturised on Kareena Kapoor Khan and Roshan the vocals fit perfectly on the actors. Yet again Anu Malik was able to create some magic with his music and his choice of artists for the song. Lyricist Anand Bakshi also deserves a mention for his lyrics that became very popular at the time.

‘Jaane Dil Mein Kabse Hai Tu’ from ‘Mujhse Dosti Karoge’ (2002)

It was an iconic combination all around with the late Lata Mangeshkar singing for Rani Mukerji and Sonu Nigam for Roshan. Their dreamy vocals made this song even more romantic combined with the music of Rahul Sharma and lyrics by Anand Bakshi.

The picturisation of this song was sweet with Pooja (Mukerji) and Raj (Roshan) professing their love for one another at the church and then reminiscing about their childhood days.

Although it was the first time that Roshan and Mukerji worked together in this film, they managed to win over everyone with their great chemistry especially in this song. However since then the two haven’t worked opposite one another. Over time though their fans have expressed their interest in seeing them work together in another project.

‘Pyaar Ki Eik Kahani’ from ‘Krrish’ (2006)

Another film directed by Roshan’s father, this one was a sequel to the 2003 Sci-fi film ‘Koi… Mil Gaya’. This film did extremely well at the box office paving the way for the other sequels that were to come later.

The song begins with Krishna (Roshan) day dreaming about Priya (Priyanka Chopra) a girl he met recently and has fallen for. For him everything is all sunshine and flowers as he tells his friend a love story about a boy and girl, meaning him and Priya. Just like the situation in the song the music begins with a dreamy melody that then changes as our main character starts to sing and dance with joy.

Sonu Nigam sang for Roshan and Shreya Ghosal sung for Chopra. It was a melodious song with beautiful vocals by the two singers. The way Nigam sung for Roshan really expressed that restlessness/ excitement Krishna is feeling in love.

‘Meherbaan’ from ‘Bang Bang’ (2014)

This was the second time that Roshan and Katrina Kaif worked together after the audience loved their chemistry in ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ (2011). This film was a remake of the Hollywood film ‘Knight and Day’ (2010) and had Kaif and Roshan in the lead roles.

The song ‘meherbaan’ was composed by Vishal-Shekhar and sung in the vocals of Shilpa Rao, Ash King and Shekhar Ravjiani. The beautiful lyrics were written by Anvita Dutt and Kumaar that truly gave off the vibes of a romantic love song.

Also Kaif and Roshan did not disappoint as they looked amazing in every scene they appeared in. Kaif’s character Harleen had a childlike playfulness to her with Roshan’s character Rajveer protecting her while being smitten by her.

These were just six of the many wonderful, romantic songs picturised on this actor as there are too many to name.

The team at wishes Hrithik Roshan a very happy 50th birthday! Also all the best for his upcoming film ‘Fighter’ which shall be releasing this month.
