Star TV India’s OTT platform service, Hotstar is set to launch a sports subscription service called Hotstar Premium.

The broadcaster aims to showcase some of the big sports tournaments it holds right to. Currently, it holds rights to telecast ICC matches, including the World Cups. Star TV is the exclusive broadcaster in India for English Premier League (EPL) and Bundesliga. Plus, Pro Kabaddi League, Indian Super League, Indian Badminton League and Hockey India League. The company also streams the Indian Premier League globally excluding US on digital platforms.

21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch said, In India, Star۪s groundbreaking Hotstar mobile video product recently crossed 60 million downloads. Over the next few months, the service will also include a premium sports offering۝.

EPL was watched by more people on Hotstar than on television. Even for a mass sport like cricket, in the larger cities, Hotstar۪s watch time is now starting to reach 50% of television. I urge you to reflect on the potential of that statistic۝ stated Star India CEO Uday Shankar.

According to reports, the service will cost Rs. 199 per month.
