Hotstar begins roll out globally with launch in USA/Canada

Star India has confirmed that it will be rolling out its popular Video-on-Demand service, Hotstar globally with USA and Canada being the first stop outside India.

Star India’s subsidiary Novi Digital Entertainment has officially launched Hotstar in the US and Canada. The decision comes just hours after Star India acquired the rights to the Indian Premier League series from 2018. It bought the media rights for an astronomical Rs. 16k crore. It is expected to use the platform to stream not just the cricket but catch-up shows from the Star TV library.

According to Indian Television, Star TV US has appointed Novi Entertainment as its Canadian resident affiliate for collecting subscription fees. Pricing starts at $9.99 for the US and CAD$ 12.99 for subscribers to its premium service in Canada. Users will also be given a free-month trial.

Hotstar is currently not fully available in the UK but it is expected to launch ahead of the next Indian Premier League season in April 2018.
