Punjabi rap artist Yo Yo Honey Singh has been forced to cancel his New Years Eve performance at a Gurgaon hotel today following an online petition that the singer’s tracks were demeaning to women.

Honey Singh had come under fire recently after a First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the rapper in Lucknow for indecent songs. Following this, the hotel dropped

The online petition says, “These pornographic lyrics are unacceptable and it is because of women hating (sic) sentiments like these that men think that it’s fine to do what they did on that bus, that December night in Delhi. Let’s put a stop to these subversive lyrics that infiltrate the minds of people who don’t know better and who then justify to themselves the rightness of a crime that harms another human being, sometimes so severely that they lose their lives.”

Honey Singh’s track ‘Angrezi Beat’ proved to be a monster hit in the movie ‘Cocktail’ (2012) and also ‘Raja Rani’ from ‘Son Of Sardar’ (2012). However, prior to this, in 2006, the singer released a song, which contained lyrics of sexually assaulting a woman.

The news comes as India mourns the death of a 23-year old student who was brutally gang raped on a bus in Delhi earlier this month. She passed away on Saturday.
