High Court finds no violation in Sanjay Dutt’s early release

The Bombay High Court has dismissed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging Sanjay Dutt’s shortened jail sentence after finding no violations in state government’s decision to release Sanjay Dutt from Yerwada prison 8 months prior to the completion of his sentence in the 1993 bomb blasts case.

“We found nothing contrary in the records submitted by the state Home department and the explanation offered by the state. No violations or abuse of discretionary powers were detected.”, said high court Justices S C Dharamadhikari and Bharati Dangre. “The allegations made in the PIL have not been substantiated. Thus, this matter deserves to be closed.”, Hindustan Times reported.

The court reached this conclusion after the state government successfully proved its impartiality while granting Dutt paroles and early release, ensuring that the decision followed due process and that no inmates from the prison alleged that Dutt received undue favours, infringing their rights.
