‘Heroine’ fails to impress critics across the board

Today’s big release is, of course, Madhur Bhandarkar’s Kareena Kapoor starrer, ‘Heroine’. The film continued to make the news much before its release and what with the TV channels and the like aiding the promotional campaign for the film, it could have been the landmark film of Kapoor’s career. It was branded as much but unfortunately it has failed to be anything of the sort.

Early reviewson various websites indicate a disaster somewhat. BizAsia brings to you extracts from some of those reviews:

Times of India‘s review reads, “Needless to say, Kareena Kapoor gets the meatiest role and while she doesn’t disappoint, her one-dimensional character doesn’t offer her enough scope… Perhaps Madhur Bhandarkar could show more heroism in pushing ahead the boundaries he himself defined with his past repertoire of work.”

Similarly, Filmfare says, “The film begins quite interestingly but 20 minutes into the runtime and you begin to wonder where the story is going. The screenplay is scattered all over the place… Kareena Kapoor plays Mahi with utmost ease, making each and every characteristic believable.”

“It remains a string of drab cliches, despite a strong performance from leading lady Kareena Kapoor… She needs a better film,” reads the review on Indian Express.

NDTV also say nothing different, “The foremost problem with Madhur Bhandarkar۪s Heroine is that behind its gossamer exterior, it is weighed down by banalities that don’t quite add up”.

The reviews are all there for the world to see. One wonders whether it was a good idea for the makers to release its film on the female lead’s birthday. Kapoor will indeed have a birthday she will now never forget.
