Harshvardhan Kapoor’s last outing was in ‘Bhavesh Joshi Superhero’ which, at the time of release, clashed with his sister’s film ‘Veere Di Wedding’ earlier this year. However, whereas the latter did much better in the theatres, the former has been appreciated after it released on Netflix. The actor spoke about this.
Speaking in an interview with Box Office India, Kapoor stated, “Netflix is new to India and the subscriber base is still growing. In four or five years, God knows how many subscribers it might have! Anything is possible… Only Bhavesh Joshi Superhero is one of the first films to see this kind of a response on the platform. In India, it is the first case for a film that the film did not really reach out in theatres and has just gone crazy on the digital.”
Giving his take on what he think didn’t work when the film hit cinemas, Kapoor also said, “More than the quality of the film, I feel like people didn’t really give the film a chance. I do not think people went to the film house to actually watch it. It is not like it had a good turnout and then people said that they did not like the film, it was actually the opposite. They went in really small numbers and quite liked the film. By the time, the word of mouth was spreading, they had already removed the film from the theatres. I do not feel like it was marketed and put out in the right way and I do not think that in India, we have the correct release strategy for these kind of movies. Even in the West, there are a lot of Indie films made every year and not all of them break into the mainstream realm, but the whole strategy of putting those kinds of movies out there is totally different.”
Kapoor will be seen next in the Abhinav Bindra biopic along with his father Anil Kapoor.
