The festival of Holi marks the arrival of spring and is one the most awaited and celebrated festivals in the Hindu calendar. Radiating positivity and love across the globe, it’s also probably the only time where it’s acceptable to wear white and get drenched in colour!
When it comes to Holi and Bollywood, this equation goes back a long way and has seen many actors fully doused in colour and picturised against some great songs to match. BizAsiaLive.com takes a look at some of the most iconic Holi anthems that will get you in the mood for celebrating.
‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ (2013) – Balam Pichkari
Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin feature in this upbeat number, which is now an anthem in its own right. Whether it’s Holi or not, whenever this song is played it simply invites you to get up and dance and have a great time. Written by Pritam and sung by Vishal Dadlani and Shalmani Kholgade, Balam Pichkari has definitely given a facelift to Holi songs.
‘Jolly LLB 2’ (2017) – Go Pagal
This song was co-produced by Manj Musik and Nilesh Patel, the song title is very apt for the video which features Akshay Kumar as lawyer Jagdish Mishra and Huma Qureshi as Pushpa Pandey, who are enjoying the magic and madness that the comes with Holi. This dance number captures the spirit of the festival and has certain quirkiness to it as well. Kumar’s facial expressions have to be noted here, and brings an element of comedy within the song.
‘Silsila’ (1981) – Rang Barse
Amitabh Bachchan lends his vocals to this particular track and executes it perfectly. In a slightly intoxicated state, Amit (Bachchan) delivers a fun, cheeky number and isn’t afraid of showcasing his true feelings towards Chandni (Rekha) in this scene. This song was composed by Shiv-Hari and written by Harivansh Rai Bachchan still remains evergreen and sounds just as fresh when it was first released.
‘Baghban’ (2003) – Holi Khele Raghuveera
Bachchan’s unique voice creates another great song to dance to. Surrounded by his loving family and friends, Raj Malhotra (Bachchan) gets the festivities started in full swing. The chemistry between Raj and Pooja (Malini) is second-to-none and shows how they are still very much in love even after all these years. Holi Khele Raghuveera was composed by Aadesh Shrivastava and written by Sameer.
‘Sholay’ (1975) – Holi Ke Din
This is an absolute classic and Holi would be incomplete without this song. With Lata Mangeshkar and Kishore Kumar on vocals, Veeru (Dharmendra Deol) and Basanti’s (Hema Malini) vibrant energy exudes in this track, making this classic a favourite for so many that you can’t help but smile while singing along to this tune. Music was composed by the great RD Burman and lyrics by Anand Bakshi.
