Happy birthday Anushka Sharma!
We, at BizAsia, would like to wish the multi-faceted, talented and bubbly Anushka, who turns 24 today (1st May), a very happy birthday.
Anushka started off as a model, and had no aspirations to pursue a career in films. It was only when Aditya Chopra cast her as Taani, ��in ��Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi�۪ (2008) that things kick started for her as an actress. The film was a dream debut for any newcomer, getting her noticed immediately for her sterling act and managing to hold her own against a powerful performer like Shah Rukh Khan.
She followed up ��Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi�۪ with a tepid act in ��Badmaash Company�۪ (2010), but it was ��Band Baaja Baarat�۪ that released at the end of that year that ensured that she�۪d arrived. A small film that was written off before its release, ��Band Baaja Baarat�۪ went on to win a major chunk of the awards that year – including several for Anushka�۪s sprightly act as Shruti Kakkar.
Anushka�۪s recent acts in ��Patiala House�۪ (2011) and ��Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl�۪ (2011) have been relatively lukewarm, but it�۪s the projects she has in her kitty – Vishal Bhardwaj�۪s ��Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola�۪ (with Imran Khan), Anurag Kashyap�۪s ��Bombay Velvet (with Ranbir Kapoor) and Yash Chopra�۪s next (with Shah Rukh Khan) that we�۪re most looking forward to.
