Hansal Mehta prepared to fight CBFC for ‘Omerta’

The Central Board of Film Certification seems to become more of a nightmare for filmmakers. With the board demanding more cuts to be made on many films, one director won’t hear any of it. Apparently Hansal Mehta will fight for his film to be released exactly how it is.

Talking to the media about his forthcoming ‘Omerta’ starring Rajkummar Rao, Deccan Chronicle reports Mehta revealing, “We’ve had screenings of the film the world over. We showed it at the Toronto Film Festival to packed houses. And I’ve recently returned from a screening of Omerta at the Florence Film Festival where the audience was almost fully Italian. They understood the context of the point I was making about State-sanctioned terrorism. I hope our CBFC will get the point too. If they don’t I am ready for battle. I won’t take any cuts.”

The film is based on British born terrorist Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who was arrested for being involved in the 1994 kidnappings of Westerners in India and plotting to assassinate Wall Street Journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002.

Talking about Rao, Mehta expressed, “He is not scared of taking on any role and goes to any lengths for it. Every award he wins is a reward for me.”
