‘Gulaab Gang’ pleas with High Court to lift ban on release

Gulaab Gang Madhuri Juhi

The producers of ‘Gulaab Gang’, Sahara One Media and Entertainment Ltd. have moved the High Court today to lift the ban hanging over the film’s release this weekend.

The much-publicised film stars Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla and is allegedly based on the life of activist Sampat Pal and her organisation Gulabi Gang.

Hindustan Times reports that the court said it will hear the plea after the producers filed a CD of the lawsuit and other related documents before it. The producers are challenging the order of the judge who yesterday stayed the film until 8th May nationwide.

The report further adds Pal claiming that the film is based on her Gulabi Gang group. In her plea she said no permission was sought prior to making of the film and had alleged that it contains defamatory content which would adversely affect her reputation.

The single judge had noted that while the producers might suffer monetary loss, Pal will suffer both financial loss, as her copyright over Gulabi Gang has been used without her permission, as well as loss of reputation “which cannot be calculated in terms of money”.

Details of the hearing by the producers will be released shortly.
