Govinda slams Karan Johar over ‘Govinda Naam Mera’ film title

Govinda has taken aim at Karan Johar over the 2022 film ‘Govinda Naam Mera’, claiming the title was used without consideration and hinting that aspects of the storyline felt uncomfortably close to his personal life. Speaking during a recent interaction, the actor expressed clear displeasure, remarking, “Kisi ne mere naam se picture bana di,” meaning someone had made a film using his name. He suggested that Johar, who backed the project under Dharma Productions, should have been more mindful.

Govinda went on to comment on the film’s plot, noting its focus on “ek pati, ek patni aur ek girlfriend”, a husband, a wife and a girlfriend, and implied that the premise echoed issues that have been publicly discussed about his own marriage in recent times. He stressed that such themes should be handled sensitively, adding, “Mazaak har jagah achha nahi lagta,” or jokes are not appropriate everywhere. He also urged, “No misbehave please,” emphasising the need for respect.

In the same conversation, Govinda made another remark that drew attention, saying, “Main unko Rajinikanth treatment doonga,” though he did not clarify what he meant by this.

‘Govinda Naam Mera’ starred Vicky Kaushal in the lead role, alongside Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar.
