Government to enforce pre-9pm ban on junk food adverts in 2025

A ban on airing junk food adverts before 21:00 on UK television will take effect on 1st October 2025.

This measure is part of a broader government initiative aimed at reducing childhood obesity and promoting healthier lifestyles. The new regulations will also include a total ban on paid-for junk food adverts online, significantly limiting exposure to unhealthy food promotions across digital platforms.

Health Minister Andrew Gwynne, announcing the ban, stated that confirming the date and scope of the restrictions provides much-needed clarity for businesses, allowing them time to adjust their marketing strategies.

The pre-watershed ban was a key pledge in Labour’s manifesto during the recent general election, aligning with the party’s focus on public health improvements.
