Golden Temple Gurbani to stay on ZEE UK

ince PTC News and PTC Punjabi clinched the exclusive TV rights for coverage of live Gurbani from the Harmandir Sahib earlier this year, a question mark has been hanging over the UK telecast.

The live Gurbani from the Harmandir Sahib, which has been airing on ZEE Network’s ETC Channel Punjabi for over eight years in India was discontinued after the SPGC awarded the rights to rival PTC Network (PTC News and PTC Punjabi).

A spokesman for PTC told BizAsia.co.uk that even though the rights remain with them, ZEE Network in the UK and US will continue showing live Gurbani from the Harmandir Sahib under an arrangement with PTC. In the UK, Alpha ETC Punjabi shows six hours of Gurbani from the Golden Temple.

Since acquiring the rights, PTC claims to have an 80% share (PTC Punjabi 64% and PTC News 16%) in the Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Himachal market.

PTC currently only broadcasts its news bulletins in the UK via Music India. It plans to launch its service full-time next year.
