Goa women’s group demands Sunny Leone ads to be removed

News has it that the women’s group Ranaragini, have issued a petition to the Goa State Women’s Commission, to remove Sunny Leone and other female models from ads promoting contraception.

According to Hindustan Times, Neha Govekar, Ranaragini member expressed to the media how such ads with the actress and others portray women in an objectifying light. “A different message is conveyed on account of this. This is a very ugly scene. Why should a government concern, have such ads on them.”

In the petition, the group stated, “We would like to bring to your kind notice the use of women’s pictures in contraceptive advertisements at public places. It has been observed that there is use of women’s picture in contraceptive ads at public places like the Kadamba Transport Corporation buses and elsewhere.”

“We have received complaints about this from many women. We, herby, kindly request you to remove these pictures,” they added.

On receiving the petition, commissioner Vidya Shet Tanavade, stated, “We have received the complaint. As a commission, we will issue notices to all parties involved and probe the matter.”
