Geo TV, Geo Tez and PTV Global have been rapped by Ofcom for exceeding commercial airtime on various occasions.

During its routine monitoring of compliance with COSTA in March 2015, Ofcom identified 11 instances when Geo TV had broadcast more than the permitted advertising allowance.

Geo TV explained that it operates a four stage process when planning advertising breaks and that compliance checks are made following any stage that involves the insertion of advertising into the schedule. However, it discovered that the Transmission Team, which was responsible for loading the finalised schedule onto the playout server, was overloading the affected clock hours by adding advertising intended for broadcast in the subsequent clock hour. Geo TV said this was done to accommodate timing issues caused by earlier advertising breaks.

Meanwhile, PTV Global landed in hot water for eight instances where the amount of advertising in a single clock hour exceeded the permitted allowance. The Licensee did
not respond to Ofcom۪s request for comments.

Both broadcasters were in breach of Rule 4 of COSTA.
