Geo News makes comeback after shut down

After being shut down by the troubled Pakistani government, Geo News has begun to reinstate its regular programming.

On Friday 16th November, President Pervez Musharraf’s cabinet ordered the channel to cease broadcasting until further notice. Geo Network has been locked in discussions with the government ever since about switching back the signals for Geo News and its other channels Geo Super and Aag in Pakistan.

Whilst its rival ARY One World was given a reprieve and allowed to return back on the airwaves under a new policy last week, Geo News was unsuccessful until now.

A court hearing planned for today was adjourned until Sunday 4th December. In the meantime, bulletins are steadily being moved back into Geo News and Geo UK schedules.

Online portal The News said, “Geo News will resume broadcasting at midnight out of Dubai Media City following fruitful discussions between the two sides”, said Amina Rustamani, who heads media affairs in Dubai’s media free zone, in remarks quoted by a local news agency.
