The three Geo Network channels currently broadcasting on Sky Digital are expected to launch on Virgin Media in the coming days.
The Geo Network consists of Geo TV, Geo News and Geo Tez and is said to be in negotiations with the cable operator for several weeks. The news does not come as a huge surprise as the broadcaster is hoping to widen the reach of its channels to bolster viewing figures. Geo News and Geo Tez continue to perform very well in the UK news genre, while entertainment channel, Geo TV, which went free-to-air and joined BARB this month, has had a slower start.
A spokesperson for Geo Network rejected rumours that the channels were launching on Virgin Media this month. It refused to divulge further details. If talks are successful, Virgin Media could launch the Geo Network next month.
Virgin Media’s Asian Mela pack has recently added Hum TV Europe to its line-up to compete with the vast number of Asian channels offered on Sky Digital.
