Geo Network acquires Sky EPG 802

Since the old ARY Network EPG slots went up for sale, there has been tremendous interest from rival channels to notch up the vacant positions.

BizAsiaLive.com has learnt that the three Sky EPG slots previously homes of ARY Digital on 791, ARY News on 802 and ARY QTV on 803, have been auctioned off for record prices. Sources said that auction went into a frenzy with last-minute offers. Each of the slots have been sold between £200k to around the £1m mark.

Furthermore, BizAsiaLive.com can reveal that EPG 802 has been acquired by rival Geo Network. While the broadcaster was not in a position to confirm the developments, sources close to the sale confirmed the deal. It will be interesting to see what Geo Network does with the EPG slot. It is rumoured that its flagship service, Geo News will move to 802 – the former slot for ARY News. Alternatively, the network may launch a new service altogether.

At the time of filing this article, BizAsiaLive.com was awaiting confirmation on the sale of the other two EPG slots.
