Ganesh Chaturthi 2019: Five iconic Ganpati songs in Bollywood films

India is known as the land of festivals and one such highly celebrated festival in the country is Ganesh Chaturthi. Millions of people around the nation come together on the auspicious day to worship Lord Ganesha. The roads are often decked up with decorations, drums and conch shells are played, Ganpati idols are adorned and adulated, there is an outburst of red and saffron colors and a joyous outbreak is witnessed on the streets every year.

Like every other occasion, Bollywood has also taken up the theme of Ganesh Chaturthi over the years, to celebrate the festival through various films and songs. This year, on the pious day of Ganesh Chaturthi, BizAsiaLive.com looks at five iconic Ganpati sequences in Bollywood:

Deva Ho Deva from ‘Hum Se Badkar Kaun’ (1981)
Despite being one of the oldest Ganpati song sequences in Bollywood, this number stays iconic to the day. With legendary singers Mohammad Rafi and Asha Bhonsle on lead vocals, this song is no less than an ideal Ganpati hymn. As the lead characters pay homage to Lord Ganesha, a huge crowd gathers together to celebrate the fervour and glory of the festival. This sequence is the perfect example of devotion amalgamated with celebration and is still remembered by people during Ganesh Chaturthi.

Deva Shree Ganesha from ‘Agneepath’ (2012)
One of the most popular Ganesh Chaturthi songs of all time, this sequence has Hrithik Roshan as Vijay Deenanath Chauhan heading Ganpati celebrations on the streets. The song is composed by legendary duo Ajay-Atul with Ajay Gogavale in vocals. Not only does the track sing out praises of Lord Ganesha but the entire sequence uplifts the true spirit of Ganpati festival. A life-sized idol, a vivacious crowd, drums, saffron, and indomitable energy, this sequence has it all to make it a well cherished Ganpati song. This sequence also shows a very important scene in the film where Roshan’s character murders one of the antagonists hence demonstrating the triumph of good over evil.

Sadda Dil Vi Tu from ‘ABCD’ (2013)
The Ganpati sequence from this dance film directed by Remo D’souza truly stands out in its own right. It is probably one of the rare instances of a Bollywood indie-pop song related to worshipping Lord Ganesha. Moreover, the entire Ganpati sequence takes place onstage leading the dance team to their victory. This sequence creates the perfect celebratory and upbeat mood to groove along with the tunes of the song during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. Meanwhile, with its grandeur and glory, it also weaves a sense of deep devotion and passion for the worshipped god as well as the festival.

Gajanana from ‘Bajirao Mastani’ (2015)
Yet another incredibly shot and well crafted Ganesh Chaturthi scene is the Ganpati song sequence from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s superhit period drama. The song is nothing short of a devotional chant that successfully portrays the true essence of the festival in a historical setting. The sequence also heightens the drama in the film as Deepika Padukone’s Mastani fights off royal guards amidst the ongoing Ganesha Vandana in Bajirao’s palace. The sequence was well-received back in the day and continues to be cherished during the festival even today.

Hey Ganaraya from ‘ABCD 2’ (2015)
Remo D’souza teams up with his crew to create another iconic Ganpati sequence on stage in the sequel of his 2013 film. This particular dance sequence headed by Varun Dhawan is somber and riveting. The perfect choreography combined with a beautiful soundtrack and great lighting creates a completely divine atmosphere. The actors and dancers are completely immersed in their performance throughout the scene keeping viewers engrossed in the reverence. And the ultimate Ganpati formation becomes successful in leaving behind a mesmerized audience.

BizAsiaLive.com wishes all readers a very happy Ganesh Chaturthi and looks forward to more such amazing Ganpati song sequences in forthcoming Bollywood films!
