‘Gadar – Ek Prem Katha’ celebrates 15 years

15 years ago to the date, history was made in Bollywood with the release of the political drama ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’. On June 15, 2001 the Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel starrer was released and the fan frenzy of the film surpassed everyone�۪s expectations.

This film based on the India-Pakistan partition went on to become a cult film in Bollywood. ‘Gadar’ not only opened to an unprecedented response but eventually created hysteria nationwide. But truth be told, it was not a smooth ride for makers of the movie as at one point distributors had refused to pay the quoted amount for the film�۪s distribution. However after a lot of struggle the movie�۪s high on emotion storyline coupled with Sunny Deol�۪s spine chilling performance made this movie a runaway hit at the box office. Gadar became the highest grossing film of all time even breaking the long held records of ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’.
