Friendship Day 2018: On-screen bonds that will always touch our hearts

In Bollywood, there are many films that have depicted friendship over the years, on of the most popular being Jai and Veeru in ‘Sholay’ (1975). However, in recent times there have been some heart-touching bonds of friendship on the screens which will continue to win us over no matter how many times we watch those films.

BizAsiaLive.com looks back at some of the examples friendship in Bollywood that will always touch our hearts from the last 10 years.

‘Dostana’ (2008)
In Tarun Mansukhani directed ‘Dostana’, the title really tells is all. This tale of three people who become great friends is one that made us laugh, cry and empathise. However, the little moments of friendship between the trio is what made this film such a great portrayal of this bond.

‘3 Idiots’ (2009)
Aamir Khan, R Madhavan and Sharman Joshi are three friends who develop a unique bond when they begin studying together. The comedy value in this film is the strength of this depiction but what makes it all the more real is the way these three friends stick by one another in bad times as well as good.

‘Aisha’ (2010)
In the first of its kind in B-town, this story about female friendship was one that perhaps isn’t your most obvious go-to in terms of friendship films. However, with Sonam Kapoor in the titular role, it shows the ups and downs that females can bring to friendship dependent on each person’s experiences. It’s a complete chick flick but the film portrays how women stick together, their realness and their strong bond aside from the fashion and girly form.

‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’ (2011)
Zoya Akhtar’s take on bromance was one that received much applause. Bringing together Hrithik Roshan, Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar on one screen wasn’t easy for one but to have them play three men who have a somewhat broken bond of friendship which has fizzled and changed over the years and then to visit their individual journeys which make them stronger as people and together is something only Akhtar can achieve.

‘Barfi!’ (2012)
Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra came together for this Anurag Basu directorial between a man who was mute and a woman who was mentally challenged. This was arguably one of the most beautiful portrayal’s of friendship ever seen on screen in Bollywood. This innocent but simple bond forms when they are put together by circumstance. It showed that deeo friendship can also be found on a level which is unexpected.

‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ (2013)
In this film, the best parts are when the four characters played by Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Aditya Roy Kapur and Kalki Koechlin are travelling in Manali. They partly know each other but this journey helps them become close. When they reunite when one of them is getting married, it changes their lives forever when they realise what friendship really means.

‘PK’ (2014)
In an unlikely bond, an outer world being in the form of Aamir Khan develops a trust and friendship with Anushka Sharma’s character. This bond is unbreakable as they both question each other at relevant intervals about career choices and the like. The duo are indeed a joy to see on screen together and it is a bond which is special within the film.

‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ (2015)
Another unique bond of friendship was depicted in Kabir Khan directed ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’. When a little girl finds herself in her neighbouring nation by mistake, she takes help from a man who tries all he can to get her home – the main obstacle being that she’s mute. Salman Khan and Harshaali Malhotra play their characters to perfection, and this friendship will always touch hearts whenever audiences watch this movie.

‘Dear Zindagi’ (2016)
When Alia Bhatt’s character need an anchor in life, she approaches a counsellor and finds Jag – Shah Rukh Khan. They become good friends, with Bhatt beginning to rely on this man to help her through the difficult situations she has in life. So much so does the bond grow strong on her side that she wants to continue beyond her sessions of counselling.

‘Jagga Jasoos’ (2017)
Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif in the main roles for ‘Jagga Jasoos’ immediately make you think of a love story. However, in this film their love starts with the adventure they find themselves on upon which they become friends and then more. Their chemistry is definitely a highlight in this film and is arguably their best film together.

BizAsiaLive.com would like to wish everyone a Happy Friendship Day!
