Four Asian TV channels on verge of launching on Sky

While the Asian TV market struggles in the UK, there’s four new channels that are set to further disrupt the dynamics in the field.

The channels in question are relatively smaller but they add to the pressures already broadcasters are facing including advertising and the competition from digital OTT platforms.

The four TV channels in the pipeline to launch are:

Monday 19th March
Sanskar TV on Sky channel 869
Closest rival: Its Hindu religious and spiritual content will give Aastha TV some competition.

Friday 23rd March
A1TV on Sky channel 870
Closest rival: It will go in direct contention with UK 44, which also broadcasts news bulletins targeting British Pakistanis. The channel is said to have a bigger network of reporters up and down the country. It will also air fictions from various Pakistani broadcasters.

End of March
Living Foodz – The ZEEL owned food channel will launch end of March or beginning of April. It will compete directly with the only other Asian food channel, Hum Masala in the UK. Living Foodz will become the first Indian food channel in the UK.

Iran International TV – Persian news channel and the first to launch in the UK. It will be available in the market towards the end of March on the Sky platform.

Adding to this, Urdu1 Europe is also working on its re-launch plans with the channel set to make a return in the coming days on Sky channel 861.
