Film industry stages protest in support of ‘Padmavati’

The film industry had been accused of being silent over the ‘Padmavati’ controversy. However it seems now that the industry is standing in support of the makers by having staged a protest today.

The Indian Films and TV Directors’ Association along with multiple other organisations from producers, cinematographers, screen writers as well as costume and make-up artists partook in a 15 minute black-out where all filming stopped. The protest, titled Main Azaad Hoon, was set up to protest against the Rajput Karni Sena and other political groups that have called for a ban on the film, according to the Deccan Chronicle.

Over 1000 people took part and shooting was stopped across India as artistes stood up against the restriction that is being put on artistic freedom. Whether this is enough to help reach an agreement on the film’s release remains to be seen but the industry has stood up in support of the film and its makers.
