EXCLUSIVE: ZEE UK to launch news channel

ZEE Network UK is unleashing a new channel, the latest one to be added is a news channel, which will cover world news from the UK and US angles.

After our exclusive announcement earlier this week about ZEE Network’s launch of its Alpha Gujarati channel in the UK on Monday 28th March, we now been informed by sources that a UK/US news channel is being finalised.

The channel titled SAW (South Asia World) will broadcast live from India and feed its transmission to the UK through the Sky platform. The channel will primarily be targeted to the South Asian community in the region. SAW, which is already available in the US, provides news and views from India and the subcontinent.

Its programming also includes local coverage of the South Asian community within the United States and the UK. Confirming the developments to IndianTelevision a source at SAW Holdings Ltd, which owns and manages SAW, said ?negotiations for a distribution pact for the UK market are at an advanced stage with ZEE Telefilms.” The distribution deal with ZEE Network envisages SAW being bundled and distributed along with the former?s bouquet of channels in the UK. SAW could be arriving in the UK as soon May/June.

SAW will become ZEE Network’s sixth channel after ZEE TV, ZEE Cinema, ZEE Music, Alpha ETC Punjabi and the soon to launch Alpha Gujarati.
