EXCLUSIVE: ZEE Radio set for closure

ZEE Radio, a part of the ZEE Network UK will cease broadcasting on Thursday 30th April, its been confirmed.

Govind Shahi, head of ZEE Network UK and Europe, said, the network has decided to concentrate on its core TV business, which currently consists of ZEE TV, ZEE Cinema, ZEE Muzic, ZEE Punjabi and ZEE Gujarati.

ZEE Radio was launched with much fanfare at the ZEE Carnival event in 2008. It was unveiled by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan to keep in line with the station’s ‘Bollywood-only’ positioning.

ZEE Radio is available on 558am, DAB digital radio, Sky channel 0215 and online. The station is now looking for potential buyers before the month-end deadline.

The closure of the station will allow the network to strengthen its TV business with ZEE TV contuining its fight at the top with a string of huge new shows, ZEE Cinema with its recent UTV and Eros movie deal and ZEE Muzic rebranding to Zing.

Furthermore, ZEE Gujarati will also be axed at the end of this month after being discontinued in India.
