In a turn around of events for STAR TV, its flagship channel STAR Plus is giving rivals ZEE Cinema and B4U Movies a run for their monies by acquiring top blockbusters.

In another scoop for Biz Asia, we can reveal that STAR Plus has bought the satellite TV rights to this year’s magnum blockbuster Black, which is this year’s only decent grosser. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie stars Amitabh Bachchan and Rani Mukherjee. Black is the cathartic tale of a deaf, mute and blind girl called Michelle Mcnally, who saw what other lesser mortals could not. She saw her God, heard Him and walked with Him into the light…

If that was good, STAR Plus will also be screening the comeback movie of Mithun Chakrobothy titled Elaan. The action thriller also stars John Abraham and Lara Dutta. Elaan did mediocre business at the box office earlier this year.

Even though telecast dates of the movies haven?t been confirmed by the channel, do expect to see the blockbusters screened in the spring. The fierce battle for movie acquisitions is reaching new heights, what with ZEE’s Aitraaz, Musafir and Raincoat, B4U Movies’ Run and Kyun Ho Gaya Na and now with STAR Plus’ Hulchul, Black and Elaan.
