STAR Network’s newly launched comedy/youth channel STAR One is all set to make a splash into the UK market later this year.

STAR, which currently transmits two of its channels STAR Plus and STAR News in the UK, will be launching its third channel STAR One to compete for the young audience.

STAR One launched in India last November and looks at launching on Sky Digital at around the same time this year to mark a year on air.

STAR One recently revamped its programme line-up with new shows such as The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and The Great Indian Comedy Show breaking into the weekly Top 50 shows of Indian television. The channel is set to launch yet another reality show-a dance music show called Nach Baliye. Nach Baliye will see 10 real-life television celebrity couples fighting it out in the dance floor to win the favour of the audiences as well as expert judges. The winning couple will walk away with the ‘Nach Baliye Champions’ trophy. The new show airs on STAR One in India on 11th October.

According to an insider the STAR One channel is being launched to win over younger viewers and compete with the likes of ZEE Music and B4U Music. Schedules of the latter two channels are dominated with music based shows with STAR One aiming to mix its programming with reality, comedy and music based shows.

A launch date for STAR One is expected to be announced soon. Keep it with Biz Asia for the absolute latest.
