EXCLUSIVE: John Ogden departs from Club Asia

Club Asia director John Ogden is leaving the station to join the London based multicultural service Spectrum Radio.

John has been with Club Asia since its inception and together with sisters Humerah Khan and Sumerah Ahmad was fundamental in making London۪s only station targeting 15-45 Asians not only a reality but a resounding success.

John previously worked under Mohammed Al Fayed running London’s Liberty Radio. Prior to that he held senior positions in the BBC and commercial radio.

John says, “Club Asia has been the most rewarding and important experience of my career. It had to be something very special for me to leave such an radio station and such a marvellous and talented group of friends. For some time now I have said that I wanted to run a station targeting London۪s new demographics. I have been offered a unique opportunity to do that. I am sad to leave because Club Asia is such an important part of the London scene. But I know I leave a successful station that is going from strength to strength. This was a very difficult decision that has taken a long time to make and it is a testament to Humerah and Sumerah۪s professionalism and friendship that they have supported me all the way.”

Station founders, Humerah and Sumerah say, “There are no goodbyes at Club Asia, particularly with John, as he has become more like family. His input into the success of the Club Asia has been essential and his experience, the perfect compliment to our ambitions to create the best radio station for young Asian London. John’s support, loyalty and above all friendship is dearly valued and we wish for him every success in all that he does both professionally and personally. Whilst we have turned an important chapter in Club Asia’s history it is far from the end of the story, we look forward to sharing exciting times ahead and welcome the time when we will work together again.”

John is taking up the Station Director position at Spectrum Radio- the UK۪s only multicultural radio station. He fills the position of Paul Hogan, who left last month.
