Esha Gupta apologises for racist remarks towards Arsenal footballer Alexander Iwobi

Esha Gupta found herself in the spotlight yesterday for her racist remarks towards Arsenal’s Nigerian footballer, Alexander Iwobi.

Reported on Pinkvilla, Gupta had shared a Whatsapp conversation that she and her friend were having during the Arsenal game and posted it on her Instagram stories. In the screenshot her friend referred to Iwobi as a “Gorilla”, and that “Evolution stopped for him”. In response Gupta replied back with, “Haha…I don’t know why they don’t bench him more.”

Fans soon took to the social media site and slammed Gupta for her “Ignorance” and called her out for being racist. Gupta took to Twitter to apologise for her comments. “Guys I am sorry you thought it was racist. Was bad on my part, being a sports lover. Sorry guys, forgive the stupidity,” further adding, “It was us discussing our frustration during the game. Sorry as I didn’t realise it was directed towards racism. Laughed over the spur of the moment, which was the game’s result guys. Been a victim of racism myself before. But this is not something I am proud of. It was a fault, sorry guys.”
