As previously reported on BizAsia.co.uk, it’s now been confirmed that an English entertainment channel from Sony is to launch on Sky next month.

Sony Pictures Television has announced that its new television channel will replace the defunct Film24 service on channel 157.

The channel, titled Sony Entertainment Television, will become available on Thursday 7th April on Sky Digital in the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Targeting women aged 25-54, the station is set to broadcast dramas and comedies including TNT’s Hawthorne, starring Jada Pinkett Smith, award-winning series Huff, and Fox’s marital comedy ‘Til Death starring Everyone Loves Raymond۪s Brad Garrett.

SPT senior vice president of networks (EMEA) Eddie Nelson said that the UK is a pivotal market for Sony, adding, “Sony Entertainment Television has enjoyed success around the world bringing the best international hits to viewers and we intend to create that same success here, with content specifically chosen for the UK audience.”

Interestingly, the Asian service from the Sony umbrella is known as Sony Entertainment Television Asia and has been broadcasting in the UK for over 12 years.
