Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Captain Nawab’ shelved?

Emraan Hashmi who was turning his hand to production with his first project ‘Captain Nawab’ has somewhat stalled and quite possibly shelved.

Announced last year, Hashmi and Tony D’Souza (who is also co-directing the film) said that the film would go on floors in January this year. But reported in SKJ Bollywood News, Bollywood trade people have now started questioning why there has been no development seven months down the line. “The duo announced the film last year with much fanfare but apparently Emraan’s Capt Nawab has been shelved as it’s become over budget and there’s hardly any money left now to complete the film. It’s a very expensive film to make as Hollywood technicians are required and the action-packed climax on snow-capped locations is said to be one of the most expensively shot sequence in Bollywood. Emraan and Tony have approached action choreographer Dan Bradley (done work in films like Spider-Man 2, Spider-Man 3, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum, Superman Returns, Indiana Jones and Mission: Impossible -Ghost Protocol among others) but he is yet to give the nod.” Said a film trade analyst.

However Hashmi did start prepping for the film in December 2016 with the film going on floors in the new year, but what happened thereafter nobody knows. “While Tony has said to media the film will start in September or October this year, Emraan can only start prepping for his character from next month as he was shooting for Baadshaho till now. It seems nobody has a clue to when the film will begin. Emraan also has to start prepping for the film and work on his physique and mannerisms as he plays an Army officer and learn how to use arms correctly. He plays a double agent (working for both India and Pakistan) and gets in trouble, when both sides come to know of his betrayal. Emraan will also have to learn Urdu and Punjabi for the character. But he hasn’t started any of this as yet so one wonders what is really happening to Capt Nawab?”
