Ekta Kapoor wins 'The Dirty Picture' name in legal tussle

In 2012 director Trishul of ‘Baba’ fame had titled his next Kannada film ‘The Dirty Picture – Silk Sakath Hot Maga’, and it was no surprise that TV mogul and filmmaker Ekta Kapoor had strong objections to this and had filed a complaint against the south based production house for the use of the title.

After an ongoing legal battle Kapoor۪s Balaji Motion Pictures has finally won the case against the south production house over the name ‘The Dirty Picture’ according to reports.

The production house claims it alone has intellectual copyright over the title. Tanuj Garg, CEO, Balaji Motion Pictures confirmed the development and said, “The Hon’ble Court has passed an order restraining the Kannada producer, Akshaya Films, from using the name ‘Dirty Picture’ or any other name deceptively similar to the said name. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce has been instructed to cancel the registration of the name Dirty Picture – Silk Sakath Hot Maga۪. This is a landmark order wherein a film has been recognised by the Court as a brand,” reports Times Of India.
