News of Karan Johar and Ekta Kapoor joining hands to produce a film based on William Makepeace Thackeray۪s novel, Vanity Fair۪, had created quite a buzz in the industry last year. Especially when the producers had signed on Emraan Hashmi and Kareena Kapoor Khan for the lead roles. However, towards the end of last year, the film was apparently shelved. Further developments on the same, confirm that the film is in fact still on.
Till last year, the plan was to re-imagine the basic plot in the book, but now the script has gone through extensive development and tightening and has been substantially Bollywoodised, co-producer Tanug Garg confirmed to Mumbai Mirror.
Another source went on to inform that the film will be set in contemporary Delhi and is a story of two manipulative people who cross each other۪s path on their way up the social ladder.
There has not been any clarification regarding whether the initial casting of Emraan Hashmi and Kareena Kapoor Khan will be retained. With the film slated to release in 2015, official announcements are expected soon.
