With Pahlaj Nihalani being removed as chairman of the CBFC last week, rumours have surfaced about the reason of his sudden exit.
Deccan Chronicle reports a complaint by filmmaker, Ekta Kapoor was one of the main reasons behind his departure. Kapoor is said to have complained to the Information & Broadcasting Minister, Smriti Irani, who is said to be close to Kapoor after their work in ‘Kyuni Saans Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’.
A source told the publication, ” For a very long time, Ekta had been grumbling against Nihalani’s high-handedness. As luck would have it, Ekta’s old buddy Smriti Irani was appointed Minister of Information & Broadcasting around the same time when Lipstick Under My Burkha was taken by her for marketing and distribution. When the film was severely attacked by the CBFC, Ekta expressed her displeasure to the new I&B Minster.”
