Bosses at ‘EastEnders’ on BBC One have confirmed that it has axed five characters in an effort to spruce up the lagging show.

As part of the changes, AJ Ahmed played by Phaldut Sharma, will exit the show. He was cast as Masood Ahmed’s younger brother and first appeared on screen in July 2012.

Sharma will leave alongside Kirsty Branning (Kierston Wareing), Carl White (Daniel Coonan), Poppy Meadow (Rachel Bright), Alice Branning (Jasmyn Banks). All five characters will bow out from the show before the year-end.

‘EastEnders’ new boss Dominic Treadwell-Collins said he was determined to get the show back to the top. He recently signed up Terry Alderton as Terry Spraggan, Bianca Butcher’s new boyfriend, and ex-‘Holby City’ star Luisa Bradshaw-White as Shirley Carter’s sister Tina.
