‘EastEnders’ actress single flops in charts

Former ‘EastEnders’ actress Preeya Kalidas’ new single ‘Shimmy’ has proved a disaster after reaching just number 85 in the official UK singles chart.

The single featuring London-rapper Mumzy Stranger was one of the lowest new entries in the Top 100 singles chart, which was announced earlier this evening.

Preeya who played ‘Amira’ in the BBC One primetime show quit ‘EastEnders’ earlier this year to pursue a singing career after signing up with Mercury Records.

However, there was little reprieve for the actress turned singer as the BBC Asian Network put her in pole position in the Asian download chart with the same single. It remains to be seen how long the single stays at the top, as it faces stiff competition from Panjabi By Nature and film soundtrack ‘Once Upon Time In Mumbai’.
