‘EastEnders’ actor campaigns against driving without car insurance

Actor Ameet Chana, of ‘EastEnders’ and ‘Bend it like Beckham’ fame, has starred in a new video urging people not to take the risk of driving without car insurance. The video, below, will be shown at the Motor Insurers۪ Bureau (MIB) stand at the Birmingham Eid Mela on 25th August.

Ameet will be joining an MIB team at the Mela, where he will talk to young people about the dangers of uninsured driving and promote a competition on Twitter. MIB is offering prizes to people who retweet specific messages about the consequences of driving without insurance.

Ameet discusses some of these consequences in the video, noting that as well as possible fines and points on their driving licence people could end up losing their car. He also encourages people to research the best insurance deals available, and to consider using an insurance broker to find a policy that matches their lifestyle and driving experience.
Ameet said: It is so important that people realise the potential consequences of driving without insurance. It۪s more than just getting a fine or points on your license. People don۪t seem to realise that they could end up losing their car, which could have a serious impact on their ability to work and their social life.۝

The video was released as part of MIB۪s Drive Insured campaign, which aims to increase understanding about the facts and laws around car insurance in uninsured hotspot areas such as the West Midlands and West Yorkshire.

Ameet continued: “The Drive Insured campaign is helping kick-start important discussions about car insurance in communities around the country. The MIB team and I have already spent time talking to young people in Manchester and Bradford, and I۪m excited to be heading to Birmingham for the Eid Mela. There are loads of myths about insurance, so I۪d encourage anybody who can make it to come along and visit the MIB stand at the Mela to get the facts about insurance.”

Ashton West, Chief Executive of MIB, said: “Despite the significant progress that۪s been made, levels of uninsured driving are still far too high, especially in hotspot cities like Birmingham, so we۪re delighted to be working with Ameet as part of our summer campaign.

“As well as realising the importance of safe, legal driving, young people also need to be aware of how they can get the best deals on car insurance. That۪s why Ameet is right to highlight the benefits of using a car insurance broker, and young people should also look into new technology such as getting a black box fitted in their car so insurers know how safely they drive.”
