In what would be a huge loss to Star TV India, state broadcaster, Doordarshan is expected to air the Indian Premier League (IPL) on terrestrial television in India.
Republic TV broke the story earlier, which said that the Information and Broadcasting Industry was pushing for the entire tournament to air on Doordarshan from next year. Up until now, all matches have been kept away from free-to-air television. However, it seems the Sports Ministry is likely to support the proposals.
Star TV India acquired the exclusive global broadcast and digital rights for the lucrative tournament for a mind-boggling Rs. 16, 347.5 crore over a five-year period.
Star TV India is yet to comment on the story.
