DM Global to return with first UK HD Urdu channel

DM Global has exclusively confirmed to BizAsiaLive.com that it will be launching the UK’s first Urdu HD channel on Sky later this year.

The broadcaster, which sold off its standard definition EPG to Hum Masala this summer, will return sometime in September or October with the service name DM HD. Pakistani news broadcaster, Aaj TV will be DM HD’s media partner, with bulletins broadcast live from Pakistan. DM HD will also broadcast current affairs and dramas with emphasis on local British news.

DM Global was on-air for 14 years before it went off-air in June and during its tenure had its fair share of issues with media regulator, Ofcom. However, this time, DM HD will refrain from broadcasting live programme from its UK studios to ensure it stays on the right side of UK media regulations. It will therefore focus primarily on recorded bulletins and live material from Pakistan.
