Since local Asian channel, DM Global delivered record high viewing numbers, there has been uproar in the market from rivals about the copyright of Hollywood blockbuster movies being broadcast.

DM Global’s success is being put down to its decision to screen Hollywood films dubbed in Hindi/Urdu. Some of the titles include ‘Toy Story 3’, ‘Spider Man 3’, ‘The Dark Knight’, ‘Quantum Of Solace’, ‘Ice Age 4’, ‘Kingdom Of Heaven’, ‘Man Of Steel’ amongst many others. During Christmas week last year, DM Global delivered a weekly reach of 413,000 beating some of the bigger Asian TV networks. This has led many to question whether the rights for these movies are “legit”, with some speculating that the movies are being screened “illegally”.

Talking to BizAsia, a spokesperson said, “We have full rights for these titles but only in Hindi/Urdu dubbed that’s why there are rumours and some being confused. We have been playing these movies for the last 4 months and never encountered any problems.”

Furthermore, the channel said it was planning to launch two new channels within the next six months. The two channels will be in the movie category and the other a news service.
