Disney to launch streaming service to compete with Netflix

Disney is planning to launch a streaming service to combat the competition from rivals, Netflix and Amazon.

The service, which will be known as Disney+ will launch in late 2019, according to Disney CEO Bob Iger. The change will see all Disney movie titles being pulled from Netflix from next year. Its line-up will further boosted with the acquisition of Fox’s entertainment assets including Star TV India.

Disney+ will feature new, original shows and movies including original Marvel and ‘Star Wars’ series. There are also plans to launch original shows and movies with a ‘High School Musical’ franchise being revived.

The logo and website of Disney+ was unveiled on Thursday.
