Disney Star scoops IPL TV rights; Viacom18 wins digital rights for 2023-2027

Disney Star has renewed its deal with the India cricket board (BCCI) to telecast the lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) for 2023-2027.

Reports are rife that the broadcasting giant paid a whopping Rs 23,575 (Package A) for the sub-continent region. Meanwhile, the broadcaster lost the digital rights to Viacom18 with a bid for Rs 20,500 crore (Package B).

A source was cited telling NDTV, “Star has retained Indian TV rights of IPL for next five years while Viacom18 has got the digital rights. The combined per match value only from Indian TV and digital rights per game is 107.5 crore. With these bids, monopoly of one broadcaster in IPL ends.”

There are two further packages yet to be auctioned off, Package C (Non-exclusive India digital rights) and Package D (Rest of the World).

The e-auction continues on Tuesday.
