Director Prawaal Raman says ‘Main Aur Charles’ not a biopic

Main Aur Charles - Randeep Hooda

Randeep Hooda’s next, ‘Main Aur Charles’ is garnering a lot of attentiondue to itsstoryline on serial killer Charles Sobhraj. As the film approaches its release, director Prawaal Raman says that the film is not a biopic on Sobhraj, but on his infamous 1986 prison break.

As according to TOI, Raman said, “I’ve always maintained that it’s not a biopic on Charles, but on the famous prison break of 1986 and the people who were affected as their lives changed since that day. That’s why I didn’t need to meet Charles Sobhraj until we had completed the movie. Besides, an interaction with him meant that I’d portray a doctored version. So, I met people connected with the prison break, including the police officers. Amod Kanth, the investigating officer, helped me with valuable inputs. So did Inspector Madhukar Zende, who arrested him in Goa.”

Raman also interviewed his fellow inmates and a few women he dated, saying their insight also helped the authenticity of the film. He said, “Their insight added authenticity to the script and how the enigmatic Sobhraj changed many lives after he crossed their paths. I also shot a portion of the film in a prison.”

‘Main Aur Charles’ also stars Richa Chaddha and is slated to release this Friday.
